SMOKER hosted by Gary Becker, August 25th, 2009 McCormick & Schmicks on the Plaza

This was one of the best attended events of the year.  Gary arranged one hell of a cigar event.

Here are the details:
McCormick and Schmick's- One of the premier restaurants in the city for food, drinks and CIGARS on the patio in the Country Club Plaza! I spoke with the general manager Cary Grider and he has offered to "Match dollar for dollar" the appetizers ordered prior to the end of their Happy Hour that runs from 4-7PM. A beautiful restaurant, incredible food and a beautiful view in one of the country's primer shopping districts. Let's burn some cigars!

Jerry Dear from Xikar gave out some of the new HC Cigars.  They were a great smoke!

Food orders need to be in before 6:30pm if you want the special prices!

Parking: It's my experience over 30 yrs that if you are willing to walk a couple of blocks YOU CAN find FREE parking , either on the street or at one of the many garages in the surrounding area. This event begins right after rush hour so expect to spend a couple of minutes finding a spot, we will not be the only ones wanting to have a cocktail on the Plaza that night. Please see the restaurants website for a detailed map of the location.

Happy Hour- This is a fine dinning restaurant, at 6:00 the kitchen's focus is dinner so I can't get the (Happy Hour) appetizers extended into the evening. However, if you call and tell me what you'd like I will place your order in your absence, please call Gary at 913.636.4555 by 5:45pm to do so.

A great time was had by all!

"SMOKER" Hosted by Joe Stapp at Johnny's Tavern, August 20th, 2009

Joe had a great turn out at the SMOKER at Johnny's Tavern.

Here are the details:

Hey guys,

We are going to have a "Smoker" hosted by Joe Stapp. He has some special guests coming in town and we know we changed the Pub Crawl to Tuesday night because Thursday's at Power & Light is C&W night and the restaurants were unable to accomodate us.

I want Joe to be able to have his guests enjoy Kansas City Hospitality. If you can make it great, if not, it's OK. I will be there!

Johnny's Taven Deck, 10304 S Ridgeview, Olathe, KS. (located off of K-10 and Ridgeview. West of I-435, West on K-10, exit at Ridgeview, turn Left or (South) on Ridgeview, immediately turn right.

The weather was beautiful and Johnny's has a great smoking patio:

Pub Crawl at Power & Light District, July 18th, 2009

The 2009 Pub Crawl was a great success.  We had a great time visiting many of the establishments at the Power and Light District.

KCCA 2009 Pub Crawl at the Power and Light District!

We have had over the last few weeks a number of changes on this event but what we have now is MUCH better than what we thought we'd have to offer- FREE food, incredible beers from all over the world, great cocktails..and Happy Hour pricing that goes all night long! Each GM from every one of these stores knows who we are, what we're about and to a man is happy to have us at their establishment and has offered us things they offer to no one else. Lets smoke great cigars as we make the rounds and have an evening we will long remember!

Our itinerary:

GORDON BIERSCH 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM- The GM Alan Rust who hosted our first event (and numerous subsequent ones) has once again has welcomed us not only with some great (FREE) appetizers but with fresh 1/2 liter German style lagers for 3 bucks ALL NIGHT LONG! The smoking option has changed a bit- the holding corp for Gordon Biersch is now enforcing their no cigars on the deck policy, were it Alan's choice.....but, there it is. If you wish to smoke at our first stop, just walk out the gate right at the end of the patio that has been reserved for us and stand on the other side or take your cigar to a lounge chair in the center of the P&L or to any of the other stops that we'll be going to that night.

RAGLAN ROAD 7:30-9:30 PM - What an awesome Irish pub and restaurant that was crafted in Ireland, disassembled and put in containers, shipped to Kansas City and reassembled by the same craftsman--Ireland in KC! Scott Hastings was here to open the store, got transferred to the flagship in Orlando and happens to be back to cover a vacation. He has graciously offered to reserve for us the patio on 14th St. adjacent to the bar, a dedicated server and extend the Happy Hour pricing that includes 1/2 price apps, half price beers and cocktails.

JOHNNY'S TAVERN & MAKER'S MARK 9:30 PM -11:30 Johnny's will have been open at this location for just 2 weeks the night we'll be there so they want to see us there! In talking with manager Nick and district manager Kyle they've offered us $6 chicken sandwiches and $10 domestic and $12 Boulevard pitchers. Across the way at Maker's Mark Jim Watry has reserved for us the patio on the south side and is giving us $3 beers, $4 wells and $5 house wines. Tuesday is half price steak night there if you'd like a great steak at an incredible price that night.

FLYING SAUCER all evening- The Flying Saucer although not a part of the interior of the P&L ( read: you can't take a beer out, and walk down the street) is nonetheless a couple of hundred feet away. The "Saucer" has between 201 and 210 beers available on any given day, 75 of which are on draught.I told Matt Gardner about the KCCA (he like Jim Watry at Maker's is a cigar smoker) and Matt and I are going to pick 5 of those 75 options to have for us for $2.75 that night (YOU MUST MENTION THAT YOUR A KCCA MEMBER TO GET THIS PRICING).

We ended up at Makers Mark for a great steak dinner and afterwards smoking cigars on the deck.  Everyone had a great time!
